rainier hike

Ben and Chris (our good friend, who officiated our wedding) took a few days to hike on Mt. Rainier’s Wonderland Trail. Both of us being expert outdoorsmen…we lugged up a six pack of beer, and four (yes four!) kinds of cheese, but only enough insect repellent to last about three hours.

The late snowpack, wildflowers, and plentiful waterfalls (see movie below) were amazing!

humming

We put out a hummingbird feeder, and it was found in about 15 minutes by the birds. They're going through a cup of sugar water every two days. Here's a visitor we saw today.

arachnid

Can anyone identify this guy? This was shot with a macro; he's less than a centimeter long.

zoo trip

Jake took Mom, Dad, and Kitt to the Woodland Park Zoo today. The animals played along nicely.

babymoon thwarted by mother nature

Back in June, we took a "Babymoon" to Belize. Ben's parents agreed to watch Jake for a week, so that Lisa and Ben could relax on the warm sand, and take in some snorkeling in the calm waters. Alas, mother nature had other plans. We got to enjoy the wrath of the unseasonable Tropical Storm Alma. When a coconut literally fell on Lisa's head, we realized we were "enduring" our vacation and headed home early. Here is a link to some footage of the winds on youtube:

yellowstone and teton

Lisa, Jake and I took a really nice trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone back in August. We've posted a few pictures from our trip in our gallery. Click here if you'd like to check them out!

ansel is a god

Ansel Adams took this picture of the Tetons and Snake River back in 1942:

On a recent trip to Grand Teton, I woke up at the crack of dawn and attempted to recreate Ansel's picture. Unlike Ansel, I have a gazillion megapixels; the ability to alter those megapixels in Photoshop; and I didn't have to carry a heavy camera around the wilderness on my back but instead hopped out of a heated car on a cold morning. His picture moves me; my picture is so-so. Ansel was a god.

port townsend otters

We saw these two otters, playing on a dock in Port Townsend, WA. Then on the way home, we saw this bald eagle in Poulsbo, WA. Quite a nature day!

diablo dam

An untouched photo of Seattle City Light's Diablo Dam in the fog, on our way up to North Cascades Institute.

skagit river

Lisa, Jake, and I went to visit with some work colleagues up at North Cascades Institute this weekend. Along the way, we stopped to check out the bald eagles feasting on salmon along the Skagit River. The weather and light weren't great and the eagles were pretty far away - but I did manage to get this half-decent shot.
