port townsend otters

We saw these two otters, playing on a dock in Port Townsend, WA. Then on the way home, we saw this bald eagle in Poulsbo, WA. Quite a nature day!

diablo dam

An untouched photo of Seattle City Light's Diablo Dam in the fog, on our way up to North Cascades Institute.

skagit river

Lisa, Jake, and I went to visit with some work colleagues up at North Cascades Institute this weekend. Along the way, we stopped to check out the bald eagles feasting on salmon along the Skagit River. The weather and light weren't great and the eagles were pretty far away - but I did manage to get this half-decent shot.

mount baker

Went for a walk at Point No Point with Ray, Kristine, and Carson - and got this shot of Mt. Baker at sunset.

grace or gus?

Tonight we were visited in our back yard by this beautiful barred owl. We think it's Gus or Grace, but are not sure which one.

gus and grace's three babies

Lisa and I had the distinct pleasure of joining Karen Salsbury and Jamie Acker today, as we banded this year's crop of owlets. Gus and Grace (IslandWood's resident barred owls) have been busy, and they had three babies this spring. Jamie scurried up an old maple to the nest, while Grace kept a watchful eye. We were lucky as Grace - usually quite aggressive and protective when we do this - decided to just watch and not dive-bomb us. Jamie lowered the owlets one by one to us in bags, and we measured and banded them as part of a national tracking project. Check out the photos by clicking here. They are so cute!

new photos

Earlier this year, I got a new camera...and I've posted some of my shots online. Click here to check out some of my nature photos, and here to see an abstract series I'm working on called Dancing Light.

Note - make sure you click on each "album" to see the pictures inside, and click on any picture inside an album to make the pictures larger than just a "thumbrint" view.

babymoon

Lisa and I took a trip to Hawaii's Big Island for our "babymoon" – i.e. our last trip before the baby arrives. We've posted the best pictures from the trip online. Check them out by clicking here. There are 4 pages of photos (see the top of the screen, where it says 1, 2, 3, 4). If you have high speed internet, click on the photos (particularly those on the first two pages) as the small "thumbprints" don't do them justice.
