Lisa and I had the distinct pleasure of joining Karen Salsbury and Jamie Acker today, as we banded this year's crop of owlets. Gus and Grace (IslandWood's resident barred owls) have been busy, and they had three babies this spring. Jamie scurried up an old maple to the nest, while Grace kept a watchful eye. We were lucky as Grace - usually quite aggressive and protective when we do this - decided to just watch and not dive-bomb us. Jamie lowered the owlets one by one to us in bags, and we measured and banded them as part of a national tracking project. Check out the photos by clicking here. They are so cute!
